“Being selected as a hydrogen-specialized company last March is both a great honor and a significant responsibility for our company and myself.
It is the result of long-term dedication to research and development and continuous technological innovation that has built trust in the market.
In particular, we have focused on maximizing the efficiency of hydrogen fuel cells by developing them into power packs and applying them across a wide range of applications.
Through this process, we have also succeeded in creating added value in areas such as hydrogen fuel cell stacks and hydrogen storage tanks.
Compared to conventional battery-powered drones, hydrogen fuel cell drones offer significantly longer flight times and, based on their high energy density,
represent an innovative technology applicable to various industries. We will continue to contribute to the advancement of the hydrogen industry based on these technological strengths.”
CEO Sung-ho Hong emphasized the significance of Hogreen Air’s selection as a hydrogen-specialized company in March.
He explained that commercializing drones and power generation systems centered on hydrogen fuel cell power packs is the result of consistent technological development and research efforts.
Hogreen Air’s flagship hydrogen drone products have achieved notable results, including selection as Innovative Products.
“Being selected as Gwangju Metropolitan City’s first hydrogen-specialized company has attracted strong interest and support from local governments and various institutions.
We expect this to foster a positive perception of hydrogen technology within the region. Currently, we are promoting a range of hydrogen technology–related projects in cooperation with Gwangju Metropolitan City,
the Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority, and district offices. In addition, we aim to establish ourselves as a RE100-compliant company in Gwangju, contributing to the city’s growth as a representative hydrogen city.”
CEO Hong explained that since being designated as Gwangju’s first hydrogen-specialized company, Hogreen Air has received substantial attention and support from local governments and institutions.
He noted that the company is contributing to the formation of a regional hydrogen industry ecosystem, talent development, and technological advancement.
He added that Hogreen Air is striving to take a leading role in the global hydrogen value chain and RE100 initiatives.
“One of the key challenges we face in pursuing hydrogen-related businesses is that regulations on mobility technologies, such as hydrogen drones,
are extremely strict in Korea and fail to keep pace with technological advancement. Although mobility demonstrations are being conducted through regulatory sandboxes and special deregulation zones,
we hope regulations will be eased in a way that ensures safety while also promoting innovation.
For advanced technologies to be commercialized more rapidly, certification procedures and testing standards need to be applied more flexibly than they are today.
In particular, safety related to separation distance requirements for liquid hydrogen in industrial facilities can be sufficiently secured, and the relevant laws need to be revised promptly.”
From the perspective of operating hydrogen mobility–related businesses, CEO Hong strongly advocated for easing overly stringent regulations.
While demonstration projects are underway through regulatory sandboxes and special deregulation zones, he stressed the need to expand designated areas and improve the Hydrogen Act itself.
He emphasized that regulations related to liquid hydrogen should be revised swiftly, noting that its safety can be sufficiently ensured and, in some cases, is even more stable than gaseous hydrogen.
“Hogreen Air’s goal is to grow into a global leader providing sustainable energy solutions based on hydrogen fuel cell technology.
To achieve this, we plan to maximize the potential of our technologies through continuous R&D and innovation, while introducing products that can be applied across various industries.
Together with our employees, we will continue to develop the company for a better future and strive to play a leading role in the global hydrogen industry.”
CEO Hong concluded the interview by expressing his determination to lead environmentally friendly energy innovation as the head of the company, emphasizing that Hogreen Air, as a hydrogen-specialized company,
will work together with its employees to take on a leading role in the global hydrogen market.
